Gertie's Community News - 2016
Victorian Evening, Friday 16th December.
The Gertie Gale's Allotment Association had a stall, organised by Chris Sanders, in a good central position in the High Street for the Victorian Evening. They had an amazing range of fabulous things, including :-
Crochet stars for your Christmas trees; Beautiful pre-loved ceramic pots; Portishead Jam; Christmas bunting; Waterproof aprons for children and adults; Some really good gardening books; A range of planted pots; A wide range of knitted Hats, Gloves, Scarves; Novelty Ladybird bags; Cakes; And more....
Chris afterwards said
"Didn't everyone do well last night!
Our stall was beautifully stocked and really busy. We made £171 after we have paid our dues to the Portishead Lights. Thank you to everyone who got involved whether it was making / finding things for the stall, helping on the night or visiting the Victorian Evening event. It was a good night and we spoke to lots of people about our allotments. Thank you to all the different people who did something to make it all go so well.
Have a good Christmas and see you all out in the allotments.
With very best wishes and many thanks indeed. Chris Sanders."
Andrew Arnold, the chairperson of the association, added,
"Jolly well done Chris for thinking this up and organising. It worked really well and will provide a much needed boost to the funds which will benefit all of us. Happy Christmas. Andrew"

HELP REQUEST...
Gillian, who has been our site liaison officer for the last few years, is unable to continue in that role due to work and family commitments. During her time in this role, she has been very successful in re-letting the allotments as they have become vacant, and to this end, we have all benefited as the site is nowhere near as overgrown as it was some years back. Thank you so much for your hard work Gillian.
However this now leaves us with a problem. We need a new site liaison officer to continue the sterling work. The system of plot allocation is now very much in place and straightforward, with the aid of the plans and mailing lists on our updated website. A number of the long-standing allotment holders have already done stints at the various committee positions so it is not your turn this time (unless you want to of course!) but to the newcomers this is an ideal way of getting to know your neighbours so please consider whether you could volunteer for this role and help to keep the site manageable.
Remember - all the committee members are volunteers - maybe it is your turn to do a stint to support the allotments.

A big thank you for those few, and dedicated, people that turned up on Saturday morning, 15th October, (and in the days running up to it) to help maintain the communal areas of the site.
We had hoped that a lot more people would help in this task - hopefully next time please.
As part of the tenancy agreement, all plot holders agree to help maintain the communal areas of the site.
As well as concentrating on the edge of your plot, frequent weeding and strimming needs to be carried out in order to maintain the larger areas around the car park, and at the bottom and edge of site.
